Lia Lintern is the eponymous label of designer, Julia Lintern.
Julia started her professional career as a structural aerospace engineer. She has worked in aviation for over five years, designing solutions for damaged airplanes.
To maintain a mental balance she juggled creative gigs on the side, including puppet, costume and fashion design. They provided a strong contrast from her aerospace work at the office.
During the weekdays she craved the weekends, when she would work at the design galleries. Even though she'd work more than 12 hours each day and the design jobs paid next to nothing, she loved the hands-on nature of the work. She spent hours exploring cupboards of lush expensive fabrics, laying out colors. For her it wasn't work. It was playing and it was inspiring.
When the airline industry started to crumble in 2002, she left her job at Delta Air Lines in Atlanta to pursue artistic endeavors full time in New York City. She studied Fashion Design at FIT and worked part- time as a costume designer and milliner. To fill financial cracks she also worked late into the nights waiting on tables. Two years and many penniless days later she realized it was difficult to design on an empty stomach. She could not abandon her dream, but the scientist in her knew she had to be practical. So she decided to do both.
Julia returned to engineering and joined JetBlue Airways in 2004. Within two months of starting at JetBlue she also launched her 1st fashion label, Molly Spinach.
Julia found success with Molly Spinach as it was picked up by a number of boutiques in lower Manhattan. However, what had started as a youthful and spunky label gradually transformed into more sophisticated and complex designs. Three years later, it became apparent that a new label was required to reflect this new aesthetic.
In Winter 2009, Julia launched her new high-end outerwear label, Lia Lintern. Lia Lintern specializes in custom-fitted coats that flatter and accentuate the feminine form. Lia Lintern coats are constructed from luxurious cashmeres and wools and are accented with rare and intricate detailing such as trapunto and Italian cording. Lia Lintern blends her knowledge and talent with structural design with her passion and love of ultra-feminine design. The result is innovative elegance.
